This has indeed been requested by others as well and we have some ideas in this direction.
Any word on how the implementation of dedicated task list is going? This reply is almost 2 years old.

Also interested in this. Especially with Touch Bar it’s so convenient to mark action items as unchecked tasks, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to show them all or even to do a search that returns notes with unchecked tasks (hopefully I’m wrong about this.) I can think of some workarounds for search results but notes look so good with the unchecked marks in them that it’d be a shame to forgo that functionality!
