What I did:
Trying to search various notes by text string
What happened:
Sometimes Agenda successfully returns results, but for about half of my searches, it fails to show any result, while there is clearly a match within the note title.
What I expected:
Consistently return results.
Things that might be helpful to know (Agenda version, OS and model, etc):
macOS Tahoe. Version 22.2.1 (389) - Mac App Store
Screen recording attached
I tried deleting the DerivedInfo folder as described here, but the problem persists.
The notes which aren’t found with in-app search are also missing from the results when I try to find them in Spotlight (Command+Space).
If I edit a note’s contents, then it will become searchable again. But I don’t think that’s a good long-term solution.
Hmm, and you can’t see any pattern with the project where these notes come from or the note itself?
Do searches in small projects work, but not large ones?
Were the notes created on that device, or on a different device and synced in?
There does indeed appear to be a pattern. These are notes that were created in bulk by Apple Shortcuts (a one-time import from Reminders app) and the contents were not subsequently edited.
For now I’ll just go through each of them and manually edit the contents to make them findable.
Ah, that is an excellent clue. Will look into it.
To be clear, the place where the search isn’t working is the device where you used the shortcuts to create them?
I don’t remember unfortunately. It was some time ago that the notes were created and I only just noticed that they weren’t appearing in the search results.
OK, I’ll see what I can find. I have a feeling it is related to using shortcuts in any case.
We’ve made some improvements that should prevent this from happening in the future. Unfortunately, the notes that were already affected probably won’t show up in search until you make an edit to them. Even a small edit should do the trick. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for reporting it — especially the detail about Shortcuts, that was a great clue!

Having the same problem here. Search just will not find most of my notes. I do not use shortcuts. About the only change to my setup is that I recently moved notes to sub projects by year 2019, 2020, etc… at the recommendation of Drew to improve overall performance….now search seems mostly broken. Is there anyway to ‘re-index’ or something similar?
Running all the latest SW
- Agenda 22.3 (393)
- Tahoe 2.6
- Apple M2
There is not yet any reset of the search index. Perhaps we should try it.
What you can do on Mac is this:
- Quit Agenda
- Click on Finder
- Choose Go > Go to Folder
- Enter this
~/Library/Group Containers/WRBK2Z2EG7.group.com.momenta.agenda.macos/Release/Application
- You should see a folder called
DerivedInfo. Drag that to your desktop (don’t copy it — move it)
- Launch Agenda, and wait a few minutes for your data to rebuild. (Do not quit until all the data has reappeared!)
Hi Drew, that seemed to fix the problem. Thank you!
Can you confirm it’s safe to delete the file I dragged (moved) to my desktop??
Thanks.
Glad that fixed it! Yes, it’s safe to delete the DerivedInfo folder from your desktop. Agenda rebuilt it when it relaunched.
