Search working no working on MacOS, but does on iOS

What I did: Searched for words and phrases I know exist in one or possibly numerous notes in Agenda on MacOS (14.5).

What happened: On MacOS, some things match, but most things I try show no results. I can be looking right at the phrase in front of me and Search won’t yield a result.

What I expected: A list of the notes containing the word or phrase.

Things that might be helpful to know (Agenda version, OS and model, etc): The same searches are working fine on iOS and giving the expected results, so it seems limited to MacOS. I’m on 19.0 (302) on the Mac.

When you open the search panel, does it still says “Indexing” on top of the island seen with the sun/moon?

No, don’t think I’ve seen any sign of that. Here is what I see.

Am I overlooking something?

Does it work with some words, and not with others? Are the notes where it doesn’t work very long?

I’d say it’s less the words than where they are found. A word I put in will come up in some notes, but not others. Ironic since it’s coming up in the incidental ones, but not the ones with numerous references to the word from the title throughout the body.

Regarding length: I don’t think most of the ones that aren’t matching are especially long. Some are quite short, in fact.

There is one set of notes that seems to always match while the ones I know I’m looking for never show match. Trying to determine if age is a factor in some manner…

Again, all works on iOS as expected… MacOS version that’s acting oddly.

Bumping this to see if there have been any developments. I still have the same stunted search results on macOS in Agenda, not churning up items I know exist. The same searches on my iPhone yield expected results. I’ve had to resort to using my iPhone to find things, then go locate the result on the Mac.

I just upgraded to Seqouia and wondered if that triggered any fresh indexing. Nope. I removed and reinstalled Agenda as well with no change.

Anything I can do to restore search functionality to its fullest?

I assume you are on our latests 19.2.1 version, correct?

Is this Mac your personal Mac, or from an employer can installed by them?

If you make a small edit to note that should be in the results but isn’t, then quit the app, launch the app, and try the search again, does it then appear in the results?

Hello! Yes, 19.2.1.

And, lo and behold, your suggestion of a small edit to a note does make search start to work. I brought up a few notes and searched for content unique to them that was right in front of me with no results. Adding a single newline to the end of the note caused them to work on the subsequent search.

On that basis, is there a way to have every note automatically touched in a meaningful way? Is this perhaps a Spotlight-related thing and I can spur a refersh of indexes or the like?

Thanks!

Does it help if you:

  • quit Agenda
  • in Go to Folder under the Go menu in Finder, paste:
    ~/Library/Group Containers/WRBK2Z2EG7.group.com.momenta.agenda.macos/Release/Application/
  • make a backup copy of the DerivedInfo folder, then delete it
  • start Agenda

Do things works as they should after that?

You nailed it. Search is back in business now in its entirety from what I can tell. This restores very critical functionality for me to say the least.

VERY much appreciated!

Thanks!

Had the same issue, and deleting that folder fixed it as well.

Just an FYI.

Glad to hear it! Sorry for the trouble.
