Spellcheck is not working in iPadOS

If I type something wrong inside a note, the spell checking is not working properly. It highlights a misspelled word only if the cursor is at its end followed by a punctuation mark:

Agenda 19.0, iPadOS 17.6.1, iPad Pro M4 11”

Have you checked the spelling settings in the Settings app? Perhaps there is something in there that is setup oddly.

Does this problem also happen when you slightly misspell words? I can imagine it might be setup to deliberately ignore things that are clearly not supposed to be words.

Hi @drewmccormack !

It is not problem with the settings because it works perfectly in other apps. For example, I see the following in Apple Notes:

The problem happens every time, even with slightly misspelled words.

I have the same problem.

Is this just on iPad? What about iPhone?

What settings do you have for autocorrect? I was just testing this on iPhone, and found it almost impossible to make spelling mistakes now. Either you press a space, and the autocorrect takes over, or you tap the misspelt word, and the system treats it as correct. But I am on iOS 18 beta ATM, so maybe that has changed with the new AI stuff.

I see the same behavior in iOS:

The settings are the default ones:

You can disable automatic correction to type misspelled words.

In my case (iPadOS), I am using the Magic Keyboard and I disabled the automatic correction when pressing space. However, enabling it does not fix the problem. All other app I tried does not have this issue.

I don’t think I asked this yet: did this happen before the recent iOS 17 updates? Could it be a change in iOS, or have you always had this issue?

Unfortunately I do not know. I always used Agenda on macOS only. I started to use in iPadOS only recently, after version 17.

@drewmccormack I am encountering the same situation and hard to recall if the previous iPadOS version had the same issues.
