Some issues with searching for tags

What I did:
I’m searching for #brew and want to find this unique note.

What happened:

A somewhat larger construction site!

  1. I type #brew into the search bar on my iPhone and then tap the blue search button in the bottom right corner. There are no search results. Not even when I tap the suggested tag afterward.

  2. Tapping the blue search button or the suggested tag “brew” multiple times generates a lot of weird stuff and junk in the search field.
When using an external keyboard on the iPad, this also applies to the Return key.

  3. The same thing happens when you tap the “any” or “none” options

  4. Type #bre in the search field and go to “Manage Tags”

Then search for the “brew” tag and tap #brew to apply it

Then nothing happens. Not even if I search for #bre in the tag manager.

And after typing #brew, this happened too. I have no idea where it came from, but the search field seems to be translating into German. I was able to reproduce it, and I’m sure I didn’t type anything else.

  5. The “Keep As Plain Text” feature produces this:

  6. The search only works if I:

  • don’t type the tag name in full, e.g., #bre
  • and then tap on the suggested tag

What I expected:
I wouldn’t have to deal with such strange things.

Things that might be helpful to know (Agenda version, OS and model, etc):
Everything is up to date.
You don’t have these problems on a Mac!

There is a lot in here, and I am having trouble figuring it all out.

Is the first issue that it simply doesn’t fine any results for the tag #brew? If you edit the note, does it then find it?

The second issue was if you hit Search multiple times you get weird stuff? Also with any multiple times?

If you manage tags, it don’t add that in search I don’t think. So that one is perhaps expected.

So it does work if you use the autocomplete of the tag (suggestion)?

Have I got those right?

Drew

Sorry, I thought a list of errors in a thread would be simpler for this topic. It’s all sort of connected.

Yes, I’m searching exactly as shown in the video, but I’m not getting any results. It doesn’t matter whether I’m currently editing this note or not.

Yes, take a look at this:

Hmm, that’s exactly what I expected. So what’s the point of that function on the search screen, then?

Exactly. That’s the only way to get search results.

I’m pretty sure this is an older issue. I’ve seen it before Agenda v22.

Let me know if you don’t need any further information.

Roman

I reproduced the bug. Will look into it.

The manage tags is just a convenience. It’s a point where you may want to change them.

Thanks! I’ll see what I can do.

The tag manager in the search window just won’t leave me alone.
In my opinion, it’s completely useless in this context. I can search for tags there, select them and… that’s it.
To be honest, I’d actually prefer to use the manager for searching in this context.
Find a tag, select it, and it ends up in the search field, where all I have to do is click ‘Search’.

That’s a good idea actually — using the tag manager to insert a tag into the search field. We’ll take it along. Thanks!

OK, I think I have a fix for the drawing glitch when you hit return. Will be in beta today.

Which beta version is it?

It should be in the latest public release, version 22.3. Let us know if you still see the issue.

Hmm, I can’t really see any major changes.
The video shows the only thing that looks different now following the update.
The other issues I mentioned in my first report are still present.

Although searching for tags via the tag manager works, it causes unnecessary interruptions to the user experience in at least one instance.

I’ve only tested this briefly so far and will provide separate feedback once I’ve had a closer look.

The tag glitch is fixed, right? What other issues?

I thought about the tag manager. It’s not really a bug. It was a deliberate choice: we figured that when you are searching, you may realize you have to fix your tags first, so it seemed like a good place to have a link to the manager. It’s pretty easy to ignore.

Others you still see?

Kind regards,
Drew

I started off on the wrong foot. I’ll try again.

I want to find a note with a tag, so I type #brew into the search bar.
What happens?

  • The note isn’t found
  • Tapping the buttons below the search field changes my search and causes chaos in the search field

The video explains it better.
It shows everything I meant.
I didn’t expect any of that to happen there.

Hmm. So the tag really exists, and is not found.

If you edit the note, and wait 10s, does it get found then?

I can see the tag is again messed up somehow. How are you getting that to happen? Not just hitting return, right? Or are you going back into the tag and hitting return?

No, not even then.

In the video, you can see what I’m doing. I tap on ‘#brew’, ‘all’, ‘none’ and ‘Keep as plain text’

The search function works, but only as described here in point 6.

OK, thanks. I’ll take another look.

Hi Drew, I’ve recorded another video.
Here you can see that a tag is only found once an additional matching letter is added to the search. I’m not sure what happens after that. An ‘AND’ operator is probably used.

If you click on that tag, is it set to “optional” or “required”?

Is there anything unusual about the location of the note that contains it? Eg. Is there a paragraph filter applied to that project or something like that?

Required

Nothing out of the ordinary. This happens with all tags that have been entered in full in the search box. It therefore affects all projects and notes.
