Overview based on With Star

What I did:
Entered search field and ran a search “With Star”. i then pressed the pin icon to create a new overview, and selected “Text Matching Search”.

What happened:
An overview was created in the sidebar but when I click on it, it returns the notes that contain stars, but doesnt filter only on the starred items i.e. it returns items that are not “With Star”.

What I expected:
I want it to filter out text which is not starred.

Sounds like a bug.

Can you open the text filter and change it to just “Star”, and see if that works for you?

You get to the text filter by clicking the project title, and then button top-right.

Hi there - yes that works as expected.

I dont know if this is relevant, but when I create the Overview “With Star” and then click on the Overview, it doesnt say “Showing Star” in the filter description under the header. Instead, it says “Showing Tags”. When I ru the filter as you just requested, it says “Showing Star”

I hope that makes sense!

Yes, thanks! I have fixed this, and it will be in 20.0.1.

Drew

Thank you.

Addition to this, when I filter on both Unchecked and Star I would expect it to be an AND not an OR. I see why it acts the way it does based on the other content toggles, however, it would be great to be able to define an AND condition for the filter.

Do you mean for filtering notes, or do you mean for filtering text in the notes?

For text filtering, we decided setting up complex conditions was too much. So we just have a simple system of selecting all the types you want to include. In general, having a few too many paragraphs is better than too few, because you can always scan over things you are not interested in.

Specifically for tasks, I’m trying to create a star + Unchecked ONLY smart filter.

Hmm, yeah, the text filters don’t have logical operators like “and”. Basically, it’s always OR at this time, ie, it shows everything you select in the list.

We will take along the request. Perhaps we can do something with it in future.
