If you have suggestions, let us know. I fear any services focussed in Europe will only be for a very small number of customers, but worth considering.
You could turn on advanced data protection. That encrypts the data even at rest on iCloud’s servers.
Yes, you can do that, and then in Agenda change the sync to iCloud (Encrypted).
Let me start out by stating that Agenda is one of my favourite apps - I use it almost every day! As for alternatives to iCloud and Dropbox, Proton Drive (Proton Drive: Free secure cloud storage | Proton) might be worth checking out? Very privacy oriented, and based in Europe.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the pointer! We’ll take it along.
You’re not going to find something better than iCloud sync, though, especially if you enable Advanced Data Protection (as you should), because then, the only place the keys are is inside the Secure Enclave of your devices, and all that is stored in the cloud is an encrypted blob that nothing can decrypt except your devices.
At that point, it literally doesn’t matter where the encrypted blobs are - it could be in a thumb drive on a table, it would still be protected.
Technically speaking, you’re right. I also trust the security of iCloud+ and use it myself—for lack of an alternative.
The main reason I started this thread a few years ago, however, is different: call it data sovereignty. I want to have control over my data and decide for myself which computer it’s stored on.
And unfortunately, the overall political situation has developed in such a way that my wish is more relevant than ever.
It could be so simple: humanity could just sit down together and decide, “Starting today, we’re only going to do good.” But no—there are too many selfish idiots in politics and lobby groups…
Sorry, I’m getting off topic—but I’m really disillusioned…
