No option to clear search on iPad

What I did: added the sample projects, search for log in the Yak App Development project, tapped on ‘filter’. Notes are filtered. Now I click on search again and delete the log filter (either by pressing backspace or by tapping in the log filter and removing it)

What happened: the search input is cleared but the note remains filtered. Even if I change note, the filter is still applied.

What I expected: notes to become unfiltered.

Things that might be helpful to know (Agenda version, OS and model, etc):
Agenda Version 19.2.1 (314)
OS iPadOS 18.0.1
Model iPad Air 5th generation

Yes, the filter will remain until you clear it. There should be a yellow button where the search button usually is, and clicking on that should clear the filter.

Do you see that button?

No, only the search icon and a plus icon to add a new note.

Good point!
I can only deactivate the filter this way:

  • Delete entry in search field
  • select another project
  • Return to the original project

It is possible to select the text in the search field and then tap on the red “Delete” button, but the filter will still remain.

If you tap on the filter button at the bottom, the search should turn into a filter which will stay even when changing projects. To clear that, you click the yellow button next to the big +. The search button should turn into that filter button, which is what you press to clear it.

So steps below are

  1. Click on search
  2. Enter a search which gives some results (you need results, or you won’t see “Filter”)
  3. Click the “Filter” button, which causes the search panel to disappear, and shows you the filter button next to the +
  4. You can now navigate to other projects
  5. When you are done, click the filter to remove it

I don’t know that at all.
I have Agenda version 19.2.1 and only see this on my iPhone+iPad:

Enter in the search field…

Tap the Filter button…

Tap the :mag: again…

This is not available in my Agenda version…

I am now very confused

Yes, I am using a newer development version of Agenda, but you should already see that filter button.

It does seem like a bug of some sort. Does it happen for all searches, and whatever you select in the sidebar?

I’d be interested to know if this has something to do with the length of the project title, perhaps not leaving enough room. Can you try it with a project selected that has a short name?

I have now tested this in the demo project “Welcome” and many other projects with short names.
The filter button is missing.

Here’s a loom video. Maybe it can give some insight.

Thanks. It’s useful to see the issue. Nothing seems odd with what you are doing.

Do you only see this problem on iPad? Have you tried on iPhone or Mac?

I don’t have a mac to test. On iPhone I get the same behavior. I don’t know if this could be related to localization. My language is Brazilian Portuguese.

Also on my iPhone and iPad.

Maybe a dumb question, but this does also happen with searches other than “filter”, right? I’m asking because I could imagine that word may have special meaning in our search system.

Tested in Agenda Demo project with:
Yak, Tea, Trevor, Inspektor …

OK, thanks.

Any news about this issue?
Were you able to reproduce the problem?

I have not been able to reproduce it, but we have Agenda 20 going into beta the next few days, and this part of the code has changed a lot. It would probably be best to join the beta to see if this issue continues.

If you want to join the beta, post a comment in this thread: Can I join the Agenda Beta program?
