New User Feedback

Hi,

New trial subscriber here. This is a lovely app. Some feedback from a new user’s pov:

  1. I’ve looked high and low for elegant calendar, reminders, and pencil integration. Never came across Agenda (I’ve been using aJournal, which has its charms but syncing is a problem and your implementation is far more modern and useful). Once I got into the app it wasn’t obvious how to use the Pencil in a note (okay, took me 60 seconds) and I don’t think your marketing and app descriptions make this capability clear enough. I feared Pencil was only for annotating documents (PDFs/images) uploaded to a note…not native “I’m in a meeting and want to handwrite vs. type).
  2. I was really thrown by the lack of a ‘settings’ option. Again, found after 2 or 3 minutes, but why so buried? I wanted my calendar and reminders to show up (as they do now) and it was not obvious how to turn that feature on. Maybe because I skipped onboarding? The magic of the app is the integration of all 3. Projects are icing on the cake and mimic how I’ve set up Notion.
  3. No easy way around it, I guess, but like many I can’t use iCloud on my work computer. Maybe Dropbox, which I’m not opposed to using for sync, but a web view of just notes, so I could type into a browser while at full computer, would solve this problem. Since full computer has other calendar options I would get value from a skinnied down Agenda experience that was just projects and notes. Easier said than done, no doubt.

Looking forward to exploring more…

You actually don’t need Settings for this. We put this in the right panel, so people find it very clearly. The settings are just backup when you need to go change things

Unfortunately this would be an enormous change to our app. Currently, we don’t have a web app, because we don’t store peoples data in the cloud (other than a form purely for sync). We don’t even have access to your personal data at all.

So a web view might be nice, but would mean uploading all your data, and we would rather not. More likely we will try to add other sync backends over time.

Kind regards,
Drew

This person didn’t find it easily. The side panels didn’t open automatically (I skipped tutorial and was on an iPad Mini, which may contribute).

This is a beautiful piece of software but gaslighting new users is not a good look. “Settings” is a pattern across all apps and coming up with your own “better way because people find it easily” made my onboarding difficult. The icon to open “Settings” is a filter, not a gear - the universal symbol for settings. But I got it now!

I understand, now, about the web access. I see all the little files stored on my drive (macOS). It is a severe blocker for corporate workers, though, who can’t install software and can’t sync through iCloud even if they could.

That said, I understand that iCloud is not a “web server” but it does have “cloud” in its name. So, to a casual user, it would not seem a bridge too far.

I will be keeping my subscription to Agenda after the trial and moving over from aJournal (the only other pencil friendly planner I’ve found).

Cheers.
