Integrated audio player for calls, meeting notes, musical ideas

Hi Agenda team,

first of all I really like your app perspective, your commitment as a two-person team and your fair subscription policy

If you have an audio recording of a call, meeting, or podcast, it would be very handy to have an easier way to navigate through the audio file while taking some notes for the project on it. At the moment I use other apps for that but if you are nerdy about audio too, here is a nice example how it could be implemented:

It’s a plugin for Obsidian which shows the audio content as a wave form to navigate in it, and it also allows you to set markers to a specific time (like chapters) and link to them:

Thanks Björn, we have indeed plans to add a basic audio recorder/player to Agenda. We can’t use the plugin from Obsidian as it’s GNU licensed, but will think of alternatives.

Hej Alexander,
thanks for the quick reply and nice to hear!

I think a more equipped player/recorder would be a great feature on mobile and mac.

I stumbled upon https://wavesurfer.xyz/ for all kind of waveform views, which is open source js. But I’m no coder, so I don’t know if that can help.

All the best, B.

The most desirable experience is the same one as in Apple Notes, where you can tap the Attachments button and choose Record Audio, and the Audio is recorded using Voice Memos, and then inserted into the note, along with a transcript.

I doubt we can use Voice Memos to record. Apple can do that in a way that makes the EU very displeased (oh snap!)

No, we don’t have that benefit, but we can use Apple’s audio frameworks, and making an audio recorder is very doable. We want to do it, and it is in the roadmap. So far, other projects keep getting in the way, but one day we’ll get to it.

Audio recording is very desirable for quick “notes” related to projects. Even if it is just limited to 1 minute or so.

Thanks for the feedback! It’s a feature that is definitely in our to-do list.

I wouldn’t use a separate embedded audio player since Voice Memos and Call Recordings provide transcriptions (on iOS/iPadOS 18.1 /macOS 15.1) and summaries (on AI-capable devices). If I have to select and share recordings and transcriptions to Agenda like I do with Mail, please make the process as easy as possible.

I noticed that Voice Memos does have a number of actions that are available in the Shortcuts app, and given the overall focus on functionality being exposed via App Intents, I wonder if it’ll eventually be possible for an app like Agenda to call the Create Recording functionality, search for content, and what-not. Or even better, if I’ll be able to do Siri, take a voice memo, and when I’m done, send the transcript to a new note in Agenda
