At the moment when I am working on an item in a checklist I highlight it in bold, if the checklist circle was larger then you could add an option for marking that element as “in progress“ rather than just open or closed - I would find that quite useful.

I can see this being useful, but we also need to think how this doesn’t complicate/bloat the UI too much. Will think about it, thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah. Like a tri-state check “box”. Starts open. Click changes it some how (slash or dot or something in circle). And then click to check-mark for done as it is now.
This would be very helpful. Not just providing practical feedback about where action is at, but also giving a sense of achievement as you can see you are making progress.
I would use emoji for this.
