It’s very useful that you export an entire project for distribution. However, sometimes, there are notes that you’d like to keep to yourself 
(notes about people, or even private thoughts and ideas.)

On Mac you can command-click the notes you’d like to export (where you wouldn’t of course select the ones you would not want to export), then in the export dialog you would choose to export the selection only. We also have some ideas in the future to mark notes as private.
