Keeping the today view only on the caledar sidebar would be awesome. I’m able to filter but as soon as I click away it brings back the whole week or timeline feed.
Please excuse the request, I looked to make sure this hasn’t been requested in exactly the ame manner but didnt see it.

Not sure if this is what you meant, but note that you can already “freeze” the calendar sidebar if you click the calendar icon in the header, then select the date or date range you’d like to select and click on “Filter”:
