This is like “who cares fodder” but it is challenging to do. For almost 25 years I’ve been using the dock horizontally. A few times over the years I gave in to curiosity and tried vertical for a day or so but it just felt wrong. Some of the old reasons for switching surfaced again last week like horizontal vs vertical space on a Mac but also some newer ones like more menu bar functions, and stage manager and having multiple spaces that are always set up the same with no memory issues. I think I’ll stay this way.

I have had my dock on the left for many years, though hidden by default. My reasons are this:
- The Mac has more horizontal space, so a bottom doc wastes quite a bit
- In general, UI flows from left to right, and top to bottom (in European languages). I like to start a process left: choose an app, then work in that app etc.
Ultimately though, it’s just a personal preference.
