With the release of Mac OS 15.1 (and 18.1 on iOS), the right click option that gives us Writing Tools (summarize, rewrite text) using Apple Intelligence appears to be missing. I have that contextual menu option in a variety of 3rd party apps (incluing Microsoft Outlook, etc.) but it’s not available in Agenda. As this is a native OS feature, will we get this option soon in Agenda?
Thanks for pointing it out. We will look into it.
I think it is there in default menus, but we have a very customized one, so will have to figure out where it is getting removed. Will see.
For now, you can just hover over text, and the control should appear (yellow) on the left. There is also a Writing Tools item in Edit.
One more question: if you are using Agenda on iOS, do writing tools work OK? In particular, when it slides up, do you see our keyboard bar in the wrong place?
We are not able to fully test it due to Apple restrictions, so for iOS we rely on others to tell us.
Thank you. On MacOs, you are correct: I can select a block of text, wait a second or so, and a small yellow AI icon pops up on the left which gives me access to the AI writing tools. The right click menu does not have this option.
On iOS (iPhone), I can select a block of text and “writing tools” shows up on the pop-up menu. However, when I select it, the Writing Tools panel that slides up from the bottom is partially occluded by a black horizontal band that makes it hard / impossible to get to some selections. Overall, it does work, just hard to get to all options.
For me, on both my work and personal MacBooks when you select text and the yellow dot appears, if you try to open the formatting bar - agenda crashes 100% of the time.
What formatting bar do you mean? Can you post a screenshot or send one to drew@agenda.com?
Can you post a screenshot of what you see on iOS, or email it to drew@agenda.com?
I see. Thanks!
We will fix this.
Subject: Confirmation: Apple Intelligence Writing Tools Seamlessly Integrated in Agenda
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share some great news for those of us who use Agenda for organizing our plans and notes. I’ve tested it myself, and I’m thrilled to confirm that Apple’s Intelligence Writing tools work impeccably within Agenda.
Whether you’re working with existing text or planning to start from scratch, the integration is seamless. All you need to do is right-click or long-press on text or even an empty space within a text box, and you’ll have access to the full suite of Apple Intelligence Writing tools.
It’s really made a positive difference in my productivity, and I hope it will for you too! Feel free to share your experiences or ask any questions you might have.
Cheers!
Jim
p.s. Entire post written using “Compose” from Apple Intelligence Writing tools in iPadOS 18.2 developer beta 2.
Drew,
I’m going to send you a screen recording that should make it clearer. The ‘formatting bar’ sits there, even selecting text kind of goes behind it, all of which, well, you’ll see.
Jim
Got it. Thanks! We’ll look into it.
On my MacBook Pro on 15.2 Public Beta, Writing Tools is not working on Agenda (but it’s working everywhere else in the system). Ironically, I could use it to proofread this message!
EDIT: precision: after restarting Agenda, Writing tools are back (probably a macOS beta bug). I found Writing tools appear only when all the paragraphs are selected. If I select only a part, I can’t see Writing Tools. I don’t know if this is the expected behavior.
You mean the yellow control doesn’t appear? I sometimes find it difficult to get. Requires a selection, and a bit of hovering over the selection.
Note that there is “Writing Tools” in the Edit menu. Maybe that works when the yellow thing doesn’t show up.
For some reason, the context menu doesn’t contain writing tools yet. Seems we probably need to do something special there. It is on the list.
Kind regards,
Drew
Yes, indeed, the yellow control is not always present. It’s a bit inconsistent.
But when I select only a portion of a paragraph, the Writing Tools context menu is not available either.
However, I suspect this is more of a macOS-wide issue rather than an Agenda-specific one (I discovered the same problem on some webpage forms).
So, I submitted feedback to Apple!
Yeah, we have not control over the yellow control bit at all. That is entirely in Apple’s hands.
We might be able to influence the context menu. Can look into that.
Has anyone noticed that the Apple Intelligence icon obscures the formatting icon when text is selected? For instance, if you have a couple lines you wish to turn into a bulletted list, if you highlight the text, the AI icon appears on top of the dot that sits outside the left margin to allow you to access the formatting tools. (Running Agenda 19.2.1 here on Sequoia 15.1.) Thanks! —michael
Yes, I noticed that too. Not sure we can do anything. Apple don’t provide any way for us to control it AFAIK.
You can probably develop techniques to make the yellow thing leave or not appear. Eg. not hover too long, or move the cursor out of the selection for a second or so, and then back in. Not ideal, but I’m not sure there is another way ATM. We will try to improve it if Apple give us the means.
I am not getting writing tools to come up at all on MacOS. I don’t get the yellow icon, and I don’t see it (Writing Tools) in the “right click” or context menu.
This is 15.2 though/
Your Mac is it an eligible model (every Mac with M1, M2, M3, or M4 variant)?
Is Apple Intelligence activated on your Mac? (in the System Settings).
Is the language of your Mac AND of Siri in English? This is a requirement for Apple Intelligence.
If you’re in China, you can’t have Apple Intelligence. UE OK on macOS.
