Is there a way to use agenda to manage pantry inventory for example with a way to add amounts and expiry dates?

You can definitely make simple tables inside your notes that you could use for this, not sure though how complicated you want to go, and if very complicated or extensive inventory lists, you are probably better off in a dedicated app like numbers or excel.
Note that you can then still add such an excel file as an attachment to your notes if you like, and double-click it to edit it.
