What I did: I searched in the bin folder of Mac version of Agenda
What happened: The app just hangs and I need to force quit it.
What I expected: The app to find the note or return no results.

Very odd, do you have a lot of items in the bin? And is it consistently happening? Or does it depend on the search term?
This has happened to me as well. No particular restrictions (latest macOS, latest Agenda). Hangs while searching for anything. Killing the app does not fix it. Rebooting fixes it.
Is you Mac under the control of your employer or an educational institution?
Does Spotlight work normally for you, including in other apps?
