Update: You can now do this in version 11 through actions, which you can use both in notes as well as in templates.
For this one you’d use \now(format: ddHHmmMMMyy) as described in the above link, making use of the unicode date format patterns.
Once configured, the format will be remembered and you can just use \now on next occasions. To restore to the default date format you can use \now(default).
