Accounts in Agenda

There are several different types of accounts you may need to deal with in Agenda. In this section we explain what they are, and how you can work with them.

Agenda Account

Agenda has its own accounts system. This is used for the following purposes:

  1. It gives you access to the Agenda Community.
  2. It is used to track if you have purchased the Agenda premium features, and which features you have access to.
  3. Inviting others to try Agenda using Agenda Invitations.
  4. Collaborating with others on shared notes (from Agenda 15 onwards).

The Agenda Account is not used for syncing your Agenda data, and you can use a different email address for your Agenda Account to your other accounts (eg iCloud).

Creating an Agenda Account

You can create an Agenda Account in the Agenda app, in the settings.

  1. To access the settings in the Mac app, choose Agenda > Preferences > Account
  2. On iOS, open the right panel, and tap the button bottom-left, and then go to the Account tab.

Once you have an account, use the same account on each device.

Email and Password Access

When you create an account, you can choose to use an email address and password combination. This works in all copies of Agenda.

Sign In with Apple

Agenda now also supports Sign In with Apple, but this is only available on iOS 13 and later, and macOS 10.15 and later. Sign In with Apple is also not available in the Mac version of Agenda that you can download from our web site, due to restrictions imposed by Apple.

The Mac App Store version of Agenda does support Sign in with Apple, and you can install this version even if you first installed the web site download of Agenda. Just remove the web site version, and install from the Mac App Store. (Note that your Agenda data is not inside the app itself, so it is safe to drag the app to the Trash to remove it.)

Using Sign In with Apple and Email Credentials

Sometimes, you will want to use both Sign In with Apple, and an email + password sign in. For example, if you have some devices that support Sign In with Apple, but others that don’t (eg the web site version of Agenda for Mac).

In this case, the best solution is first to create a Sign In with Apple account, and then setup a password to use with the Sign In with Apple email address:

  1. Click the Sign In with Apple button to create an Agenda account.
  2. When you make the account, remember which email address you chose to use. You can choose your normal iCloud email address, or a random email address that protects your privacy (these emails are of the form ...@privaterelay.appleid.com
  3. On another device, where you can’t use Sign In with Apple, enter the email you chose, and press the Reset Password link. You should receive an email with instructions.

You can now sign in using the Sign In with Apple button, or the email and password combination you chose. You will be using the same account either way.

If you have issues, or end up with two different accounts, get in contact with support@agenda.com, and we will fix the problem for you.

Changing Your Agenda Account Password

To change the password for your Agenda Account, or to add a password if you initially used Sign In with Apple, try this:

  1. Go to the Agenda Account in Agenda.
  2. Sign Out if you are already signed in.
  3. Type in your email address.
  4. Press the Reset Password button.
  5. Wait for an email. (Check you spam folder too.)
  6. Follow the instructions in the email to securely choose a new password.

Changing Your Agenda Account Email

If you wish to change the email address associated with your Agenda Account, visit this web page: https://accounts.agenda.com/credentials/changeemail

Sign in, and choose your new email address.

Sync Accounts

There are other accounts you may need to interact with in Agenda, specifically accounts for syncing your data. This section covers these accounts.

iCloud Account

If you want to sync your Agenda data with iCloud, which is the default, you need to be aware that it will only sync between devices using the same iCloud account. It is not possible to sync between two devices that have different iCloud accounts.

The one exception is on a Mac, because a Mac can have multiple user accounts. It is possible to setup multiple user accounts on your Mac, each with a different iCloud account. This may be a solution for you if you need to sync with a particular iOS device.

Dropbox Account

In addition to iCloud, it is also possible to use Dropbox to sync. You can use any Dropbox account, not just your default Dropbox account. So it is possible to create a new, free Dropbox account, and possibly even share an account with others if you want to sync with them. (Note that if you sync with others in this way, it will sync all of your Agenda data.)

When you start the sync with Dropbox, it should ask you to sign in to a Dropbox account. After you do that, it will start syncing. And just as for iCloud, it will only sync if you are using the same Dropbox account in Agenda on each device.

I paid for a premium account but now I don’t know if Agenda will work for me. I can’t find anything that says whether this is a subscription model and I will be charged again, or a way to turn off automatic billing. Help!

See here for explanation I don’t understand the pricing system

Unless you deliberately choose the “automatically renew” checkbox, it won’t be a subscription. If you did subscribe using that checkbox, you can cancel by going into your App Store account and looking for the subscriptions there. Just cancel like any Apple subscription.

Hope that helps!

Thanks!
