Switching to Markdown editing

What I did

I found out that in the Agenda Community, there’s a switch button “Switch to standard Markdown editor ^M”.

What happened

I like it because two windows appear, one Markdown, the other the formatted view.

What I expected

I’m expecting that this should also be possible within the notes itself so I can swiftly use the standard non-Markdown during leasure time and Markdow duing quick note taking.

Perhaps I’m just missing out. Please help. :folded_hands:

You aren’t missing anything, I’m afraid. That switch is part of the forum software rather than Agenda, so the side by side raw and formatted view you get when writing a post here is not something the app has.

Agenda isn’t a markdown editor as such, but it does understand quite a lot of markdown as you type. Start a line with # for a heading, - for a bullet, - [ ] for a checkbox, backticks for code, and so on. So the quick typing part of what you want already works, it just formats as you go rather than showing you the source alongside it. There is a full list here: Markdown Cheat Sheet

Going the other way, Edit > Copy As Markdown gives you the markdown source of a note.

A proper markdown mode with the source visible is a fair request though, and it isn’t something we have looked at. I’ll take it along.

Kind regards,
Drew

I’d definitely be excited about any features you can build in that better enable working with Markdown. Increasingly in my work, Markdown has become standard for structuring and sharing docs. Agenda is such a great place to develop and order ideas, so it would be really powerful to be able to work interchangably in 'normal Agenda mode’ and in ‘Markdown mode’.

Thanks for the feedback. We will take it along.

The issue is really that Agenda keeps a lot of info about the text and styling that Markdown supports. We would have to find a way to preserve that.

We’ll see what we can do.
