Highlighting process

  • I select some text
  • It takes on a green background
  • I use cmd-shift-1 to set a highlight
  • the text remains green backgrounded
  • I click away
  • the text is now highlighed red

This is the final outcome I want, but it’s slightly weird that there’s no visual indication that the text has been highlighted until I click away, so sometimes I’m not sure if I’ve used the correct keyboard commands.

Could the text adopt the selected highlight immediately it is applied?

Yes, that is the same thing I notice myself. The text doesn’t visually pick up the highlight colour until the selection is released, because the selection background is drawn on top of it.

We could probably either dim the selection background a bit while a highlight is being applied, or briefly flash the highlight colour on commit, so there is some confirmation. We will take it along.
